PVC-FREE OUT OF CONVICTION
SUSTAINABLE BY TRADITION
PANO® produces in Germany — with renewable energies. We pursue science-based climate targets: instead of the blue sky, we promise the BLUE RING.
HOLISTIC SUSTAINABILITY
CLIMATE PROTECTION IS OUR TOP PRIORITY
We have been practicing sustainability for more than a century. Our daily actions are characterized by using as few resources as possible.
We do not limit our sustainability efforts to the very important aspects of ecology and climate protection. Common good values such as human dignity, solidarity and justice are just as important to us as our social values.
That is why we have committed ourselves to extensive sustainability initiatives. In addition to demonstrably avoiding CO2 in the production of closures through PVC-free technology, PANO® has been able to achieve a reduction in greenhouse gases through extensive investments across all stages of production.
Of the 31 million euros invested at the Itzehoe site over the last eleven years, 88% has gone directly into sustainability projects.
Our sustainability compass is based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), among other things.
- High-quality education
- Affordable and clean energy
- Decent work and economic growth
- Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- Sustainable consumption and production
- Climate protection measures

PANO® PVC VS. PVC-FREE:
Where there is a blue ring, there is sustainability.
The sealing compound of closures containing PVC required thermal drying, which was associated with additional energy consumption and polluted exhaust air. This is not the case with the PVC-free sealing ring of the BLUESEAL® closure. There is no need for thermal drying here. The PVC-free production process therefore saves energy and CO2e. By converting our final production to renewable energies, we are already able to produce the BLUESEAL® closure in an energy-efficient manner.
CO2-SAVING
1Allocated calculation of CO2e-intensity 2021 per unit | base year 2011 | Scope 1 & 2 | verification by environmental verifier mMM.
2Short-term target: Reduction of scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42 % by 2030 based on 2021.
Long-term target: Reduction of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by at least 90 % by 2050 at the latest, based on 2021.
TARGETS WITH A SCIENTIFIC BASIS
REDUCING EMISSIONS
In addition to recording its current climate performance using a greenhouse gas balance, one component of Pano Verschluss GmbH's active climate management is setting ambitious emission reduction targets.
The Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) requires companies to set a reduction target that is in line with the 1.5 °C target of the Paris Climate Agreement. This target is based on the global greenhouse gas budget still available, which is calculated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Important: According to the initiative, offsetting services (CO2 certificates) cannot be counted as reduction services.
Our emission reduction targets have been validated by the SBTi and include the following commitments:
Short-term target:
- Reduction of scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42 % by 2030 based on 2021
Long-term target:
- Reduction of scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by at least 90 % by 2050 at the latest on a 2021 basis
Compliance with targets is monitored and checked annually by the SBTi.

OVER 100 YEARS AGO WE SET OUT ON THE PATH
SUSTAINABLE BY TRADITION
Paul Nofer's journey began in 1920 when he came up with the idea of making closures for preserving jars from leftover sheet metal in his electrical installation business.
Typical Swabian — typical sustainability pioneer!
The inventor had to overcome many hurdles for the family business to be so successful today.
Wulf Eberhardt is the third generation of the family to run the business and the tradition is continuing in the long term.
Thanks to the introduction of the innovative, PVC-free BLUESEAL® and high investments in increasing sustainability, PANO® is ideally equipped for the future!
